Service is Love Made Visible

In this week's Moving Forward Monday we share Stephen Colbert's 2011 Commencement Speech for Northwestern University where he suggests that "If everybody followed their first dreams in life, the world would be overrun by cowboys and princesses." And shares a perspective that "Whatever your dream is, if you haven't achieved it, you haven't failed... But if you do get your dream, you are not a winner [either]... Life is an improvisation, and you cannot win improv... You cannot win your life... [Instead] we should serve others and together serve some common goal or idea. In my experience you will truly serve only what you love because Service is Love Made Visible."

We invite you to watch, laugh and learn with us through Stephen's iconic comedic performance.

So this week, we take a minute to think about our dreams and whether we strive to live in Service to something bigger than ourselves. When we're children, we naturally focus on what we want for ourselves and our lives. But as we mature, we realize our world is much bigger than us, and that being part of something bigger and better than we could ever be individually is much more powerful than anything we could dream for ourselves alone. We yearn to be useful; for our lives to have great meaning. And maybe being of Service, Making our Love Visible is that super power, that ultimate purpose.
