Be You inspirational poster

In this week's Moving Forward Monday post, we examine what it takes to simply be yourself and why that's important.

In this time of mega-viral videos, posts, tweets, and podcasts we are constantly bombarded with how other people are achieving "this" and overcoming "that" and how they want to teach us how to do it. And a lot of that can be great sources of insight for us, but when we become enveloped in that cloud of "we know something you don't know", it's easy to feel like we have to figure out how to be like them to be successful and get what we want. But nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, this form of marketing plays directly to an inherent weakness hard-wired into us all... fear. Fear of missing out. Fear of failure. Fear of not being enough. Fear we will be embarrassed or cast out. These fears are intended to protect us so we will be driven to stay in the pack where it's safer. However, if we allow them to operate undercover, or make our decisions for us, they will keep us from being ourselves. They will keep us from knowing when to break from the pack to stretch out and embrace our individuality, which in turn makes the pack stronger. It is this dance of together and apart, of fear and courage that we must master if we are to live to our fullest potential.

So this week, if you are feeling like things just aren't quite going your way or moving smoothly, take a look at what you're doing and why you're doing it. Are you being true to your nature, making the best use of your talents and strengths? If not, will you muster the courage to Be You?
